About the company
Vilnius’ Organ Workshop was founded in 1972. Led by Rimantas
Gučas the workshop was the only one of its kind not only in
Lithuania but in the whole Soviet Union. It was able to do all the jobs
- from the pipes and keyboards up to ornamented façades. The main
point of concern of the workshop was the restoration of historic
instruments. During almost forty years of the activities there were
more than 30 organs restored or built at the Vilnius' Organ
Workshop. The organ at Vilnius' University St. John's Church
completed in 2000 is the largest in Lithuania.
Rimantas Gučas was born 1942 in Kaunas. He graduated from the
State Conservatoire after studying Music History with Prof.
J.Čiurlionytė, in 1965. From 1966 to 1972, R.Gučas was working at
the Theatre and Music Department of the Arts Museum in Vilnius.
Upon his initiative, the registration of the historical organs in
Lithuania was included into the activities of the Museum in 1967,
and also the first ever list of the memorial Lithuanian organs was
officially approved in 1970. Since 1998, R.Gučas is a member of the
International Society of Organ Builders (ISO). The catalogue
“Lithuanian Organs” was published by Rimantas Gučas in 2009.
